For This Child I Prayed

Image
Last Sunday was Mother's Day. At our church they did a child dedication service. Several families presented their youngest children before the congregation to publicly profess their intentions of raising the child in the way of the Lord. A beautiful, albeit brief 'ceremony' of sorts. I remember the day I did that with my first born.  Many years ago now.  And something occurred to me, now that this child is in the throes of adulthood - facing adult struggles. The verse that the pastor had spoken over my sweet little infant that day was from 1 Samuel 1:27: "For this child I prayed..." I have tossed this verse around in my head for the past few days and this morning, as I laid awake in the wee hours of the morning, I was suddenly in grammar class with the Holy Spirit before me at the chalkboard, walking me through this simple verse, using a long pointer stick as we read it over and over, each time emphasizing a different word... God created humans, male and female...and we compliment and complete each other in the most magical ways.  But God knew that Eve would need someone to talk to when Adam was being a jerk, so He gave her girlfriends.  **disclaimer - this is not exactly scriptural...** Little girls need other little girls to play dolls with...teenaged girls need other teenaged girls, because quite frankly, no one else 'gets' them.  (Not even their adult counterparts.)  And women need women friends.  Females can relate to each other in a way that males cannot. C heck out this hysterical video to see what I'm talking about.    When men try to act like US, they look ridiculous.  I can't imagine coming home to find my husband and his BFF floating around in the pool together, floaties tethered so that they don't miss a word of their important conversation.  I can't imagine my husband in the fitting room at Macy's with his buddies, asking "do these jeans...

It's Monday.  That means back to my 'normal' weekly schedule...well, sort of.  It is summer break, so I don't have to get up quite so early to enjoy my alone time with God... so I allow myself another hour of sleep.  I checked my alarm last night before going to bed. Yep. 6:30 AM, repeat Monday through Friday. And off to dreamland I went. Had the strangest dream about praying with one of my friends...but anyway, as the sun began to brighten my bedroom, I began to stir. At one point, I'm sure God whispered, "Get up, my child!  It's time for us to visit." I hadn't heard my alarm go off, so I mumbled and rolled over, pulling my covers up over my head. So, finally at 7:00 AM when my husband's alarm went off, I fumbled for my phone...and discovered that I hadn't actually turned on the alarm. Oops. But it's okay, I reasoned with myself. Still plenty of time for God. I'll just make some coffee and get right to Him. Oh, and coffee for R...
