Precious Time

Today has been a good day.  I took my youngest son, Caleb,  kayaking.   He's done it many times, but me, I was a novice.   Not new to the creek, just the kayak.  I loved it! Caleb was very patient with me and I enjoyed hearing the excitement in his voice as he watched "huge" fish dart around beneath us.  He assured me that if he had been in a tube just then, he would have grabbed that fish right out of the water.  The highlight of my day was when he actually let me take a 'selfie' with him. That's a rarity.  His only comment was ,  "make sure you use the best one."  He failed to say of whom, so naturally it will be the one most flattering to me!  We laughed.  We chatted.  We sat in awe of the beautiful surroundings.  And I soaked him up, like the last drops of a cool glass of water in the hand of a desert nomad.  I tried to study him.  His features, growing more and more manly every day. ...

45 Years of Life to be Thankful For

You say it's your birthday?  It's my birthday, too!  Seriously.  It really is. After yesterday's post about saying thank you to people, I wanted to take a moment today for a public thanks to the best mom in the world...Mine.  Here's a Cliff Notes version of the story: April 1969, she's separated from her husband with a six year-old little boy to take care of.  She's feeling sick so she goes to the doctor - to discover that she's seven months pregnant!  Yep...she was one of 'those' girls that could be pregnant, not show and be losing weight.  (A trait I did NOT inherit.)  I was born in June (obviously, since today's my birthday.) Anyway, fast forward to December 1992 and I was having a conversation with my mom and grandmother about Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice.  My grandmother was being very vocal about her Pro-Choice stance, when it suddenly occurred to me...back in 1969, during a time when it was all peace, love and flowers, my ...

It's 5 o'clock somewhere...

T.G.I.F!  So what's on your agenda today?  Most folks keep an eye on the clock, waiting and watching for five o'clock to roll around so they can get their weekend started. They dream of how they will spend the weekend (the 63 hours between 5 PM Friday and 8 AM Monday).  Some dream of relaxing or sleeping late. Some dream of sitting around a bon fire with friends or enjoying their favorite hobby.  Some dream of spending time with their significant other... Well snap out of it sister! It doesn't matter if you are a stay-at-home mom, a work-from-home mom, or a work-outside-the-home mom... when young children are involved, the weekends can be anything but relaxing. I used to get anxiety attacks regularly, every Friday at 3 PM when school got out and would dream of 7 AM Monday when the big, yellow bus would take them all away again...*sigh* There's nothing relaxing about running seven kids in seven directions and trying to keep a husband happy who wants nothin...
